FDR on TV 7

In Sept 2008 Biden was on CBS news discussing the Great Depression. Disaster struck:

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened,'"

That's fine, except that TV wasn't introduced until 1939 and Hoover was still president in 1929 when the market plunged. A two-fer!

Anyhow, thanks to alert reader Janet Kempf, here's the video:

Cool! You’ve got a lot catch-up work to do, though.

So true! And more material is constantly presenting itself. This is a rich vein…

You might want to fact-check your date for TV’s invention.

@david, I’m using the 1939 World’s Fair as the reference point for TV. But it’s a fair point; I’ve changed the wording to “introduced”.

I believe you will find Buck Rogers using extremely sophisticated wide-screen full-color high-definition television as early as 1929. Sure, it’s science fiction, but what in the Obama administration is not?

The music score was supurb! The splicing in the lyrics “Don’t know much about history…”, from the song “(What A) Wonderful World By”, which was sung by Sam Cooke, was a masterful touch.

Today Googling “don’t know much about history song” generates hits to Sam Cooke. I’m confident that Joe Biden will display Sam Cooke in the near future.

@johnh, you’re right, that was a nice touch. I just listened to it all the way through (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KTFoMJi3uE); it’s a very sweet little song.
